Maligne Valley Adventure + Guided Walk

A trip to Jasper National Park is incomplete without a journey up the Maligne Valley! Long considered one of the Canadian Rockies crown jewels, this valley is a World Class Treasure! Come with us on a interpreted adventure up this pristine valley and marvel at some of Natures finest craftsmanship!

The journey begins as you climb out of the Athabasca Valley and up into the sub valley of the Maligne. Along the way, you will experience the power of water as it carves its way deep into the earth at Maligne Canyon, wonder at the mysterious disappearance of the water at Medicine Lake and finally take in the sheer beauty of Maligne Lake itself.

Once at Maligne Lake we will walk around the Mary Schäffer Loop. On the hike you will at first meander along the shoreline of the largest natural lake in the Canadian Rockies but soon enough you will be absorbed into the primordial forest, a place where we don't often get to in our daily lives. Here, things are as they have always been. Prepare to feel brand new again!

Owner / Head Guide

The Canadian Rockies are known to the Indigenous people in Alberta as the 'Shining Mountains' or the 'Backbone of the World.' Joe Urie, a Métis guide and owner of the Jasper Tour Company, knows these mountains as 'home.' Joe comes from a proud Métis family who have been living and guiding along the Athabasca River for a very long time. The first of his people arrived on these shorelines from the historical Métis Homeland, in what is now Manitoba in 1860. Joe considers the Athabasca River to be the blood in his veins and he invites you to experience the Rockies through his eyes. Whether it’s viewing their grandeur, hearing stories of the region’s First Peoples or learning about the wildlife that roam here, Joe's love and knowledge of the mountains, combined with his good nature and a damn good story makes the Jasper Tour Company your number one choice for adventure on any visit to the Canadian Rockies!
